Tutorial TP3: Building a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for your Project
Location: TBA
Presenters: Celia Desmond

No project can be successful without full and clear understanding of the product that the project must produce. Using recommended project management processes, this is done via a sequence of steps, creating first a brief view of the product, followed by a very detailed description. Even this detailed description, though, is not enough to ensure that everyone has the same full understanding of what the project will produce. The Work Breakdown Structure provides a different view of the project and its product. There are rules for building a good WBS and these will be reviewed. The WBS also helps the team in providing customer satisfaction - which is closely related to producing what the customer wants, within the required cost and time. Or more accurately, producing what the customer really wants. WBS creation causes the team to look at the product from different perspectives and to try to determine exactly what is needed.

Attendees will create work breakdown structures for different projects, working in teams.
